Asset Management

The commercial environment for industrial assets is both global and intermodal (i.e using various transportation means). Thus the security challenge is to track asset location and contents anywhere in the world and to identify any deviation of routing or content tampering.

The FAISAT network is being designed to provide tracking and other value-added services for managing fleets of trucks, shipping containers, rail cars, and barges. Position information, provided by a Global Positioning System ("GPS") receiver in the terminal, can be used for routine tracking, route deviation alerts, and updates on arrival times for improved customer service. Asset management solutions may include:

refrigeration unit monitoring
temperature monitoring
door open and close sensing (with time and location)
weight sensors
electronic customs surveillance
remote diagnostic control

Some key industries that can benefit from this application include:

Security Alert and Location Determination Solution

The remote monitoring and alert capability supported by the FAISAT system will be designed to enable a host of new services for the security industry, and create an opportunity for the security industry to extend its services into remote field locations where terrestrial communication systems do not exist. Further, by virtue of the FAISAT unit's battery-powered capability and disaster resiliency, the security data reporting services are protected against outages due to natural disasters or the loss of power.

Automotive Applications

Within the automotive industry there are a number of programs underway to develop telematics for automobiles. These initiatives combine wireless communications with location capabilities to deliver security, information and productivity-enhancing services to people on the move. Some of the applications include location determination for theft recovery, monitoring automotive performance, roadside assistance and a host of other services.

The FAISAT system can be used to extend diagnostic and alert capabilities beyond the boundaries of terrestrial communications systems.
